| A tragic accident took the lives of four Geronimo paratroopers on 29 December 1967, when a 4.2 mortar round was fired with a 200 millimeter error in deflection. Those killed were: Lieutenant Jon Cappaert Platoon Sergeant Joe Lewis Johnson Sergeant Frank Henderson Corporal Robert O. Graham. The wounded included: Platoon Sergeant Jose Brenes-Escobar Specialist Four David Evans Private First Class Gary L. Graham Specialist Four Eugene Halus Specialist Four Douglas B. Keefauver Private First Class Lucien L. Kinney Private First Class John Lewis Specialist Four John Loosen Private First Class Kenneth m. McBroom Specialist Four Quinton McMurren and several others slightly wounded. Both Loosen and McBroom received grievous wounds. |
